Bandaragama karting track will be in international standards soon

Arguably one of the best
carting experts in the region, Richard Lim from RL Karting, Malaysia, is to
provide his expertise to the upcoming international-level karting track at
David Pieris Group of
Companies will have their already existing carting track at Bandaragama
expanded in near future to international standards.
Lim expects the best karting
will be held at Bandaragama owing to the upcoming facility. He said so in a
media briefing held at Bandaragama recently.
Lim, the main organizer of
the prestigious X30 Southeast Asia Karting Series, said Sri Lanka has a fair
chance of going up in the sport in the future with the contributions from
Harsha Pieris , one of the leading karters in the region, and Niroshan Perera,
a Sri Lankan who is now the FIA Regional Coordinator who has capacity to shed
much-needed light on Sri Lanka?s karting.
Meanwhile David Pieris , a
prominent entrepreneur in the country who is also a karting fanatic who owns
the Bandaragama karting club, said the Bandaragama track will soon be expanded
by over 440m from its present distance of 773m, and his intention is to entice
more and more school kids to take to the sport. The new track will meet the
required international standards and an added feature will be the entertainment
park adjoining the state-of-the-art karting facility.
?Since the forming of the new
karting track in 2013, our intention has been to provide more accessibility for
the youngsters to the sport. Some Colombo schools have already added karting to
their sporting schedules. An endeavour that does not generate profits at the
moment, promoting karting has been our passion. We need to do something for the
betterment of the sport voluntarily. This is all because of that,? said Davis
