Bandaragama karting track will be in international standards soon

Arguably one of the best carting experts in the region, Richard Lim from RL Karting, Malaysia, is to provide his expertise to the upcoming international-level karting track at Bandaragama.

David Pieris Group of Companies will have their already existing carting track at Bandaragama expanded in near future to international standards.

Lim expects the best karting will be held at Bandaragama owing to the upcoming facility. He said so in a media briefing held at Bandaragama recently.

Lim, the main organizer of the prestigious X30 Southeast Asia Karting Series, said Sri Lanka has a fair chance of going up in the sport in the future with the contributions from Harsha Pieris , one of the leading karters in the region, and Niroshan Perera, a Sri Lankan who is now the FIA Regional Coordinator who has capacity to shed much-needed light on Sri Lanka?s karting.

Meanwhile David Pieris , a prominent entrepreneur in the country who is also a karting fanatic who owns the Bandaragama karting club, said the Bandaragama track will soon be expanded by over 440m from its present distance of 773m, and his intention is to entice more and more school kids to take to the sport. The new track will meet the required international standards and an added feature will be the entertainment park adjoining the state-of-the-art karting facility.

?Since the forming of the new karting track in 2013, our intention has been to provide more accessibility for the youngsters to the sport. Some Colombo schools have already added karting to their sporting schedules. An endeavour that does not generate profits at the moment, promoting karting has been our passion. We need to do something for the betterment of the sport voluntarily. This is all because of that,? said Davis Pieris .
